The Town of Pennington Gap has received $80,000 for community engagement and planning around renewable energy opportunities through Phase One of the Department of Energy’s SOLVE IT Prize. This project is being carried out in partnership with Appalachian Voices and the Solar Workgroup of Southwest Virginia. See more about SOLVE IT and potential future funding below.
The Solutions for Lasting, Viable Energy Infrastructure Technologies (SOLVE IT) Prize is a DOE-sponsored program to support communities as they identify and work to implement innovative clean energy solutions in a way that works best to address their unique needs and challenges.
As an awardee of the Phase One prize, Pennington Gap can apply for up to $650,000 in additional funding to make these identified community projects a reality! Phase Two applications ($150,000) are due November 25, 2024, and Phase Three applications ($500,000) will be due June 12, 2025. Only awardees of Phase Two may compete for Phase Three.
